Hamilton police are investigating after one person was killed in a shooting at 191 Main St. West (Matt Farrauto/CHCH News).

Hamilton police report that one individual has died following a shooting in the downtown area on Thursday night.

At around 6:28 p. m., officers responded to the vicinity of 191 Main St. West after receiving reports of gunfire.

Upon their arrival, authorities discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed.

The section of Hess Street between Main and Bold streets is currently closed for the investigation. The public is being advised to steer clear of the area while detectives work on-site for several hours.
