Local police want “residents to be aware” of “two separate incidents involving a firearm” after people walking were hit by projectiles believed to come from an air rifle in downtown Kingston.
In a press release sent out just after 1 p. m. on Tuesday, Apr. 28, 2026, Kingston Police noted that the first incident took place at Russell Street and Patrick Street while the second happened on Palace Road near Park Street.
The authorities stated that both events involved a black vehicle, “possibly a Ford,” with four people inside.
“In both incidents, passengers in the rear of the vehicle we observed to be firing a long gun-style air rifle at pedestrians,” Kingston Police said.
“In both incidents, pedestrians were struck with projectiles shot from the gun.”
Responding to questions from Kingstonist, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, confirmed that the first incident took place around 12:30 p. m., followed closely by the second about five minutes later.
The police are urging residents to report any suspicious activities. They can be contacted at 613-549-4660 ext. 0 if callers wish to stay anonymous.
“If you believe you see the involved vehicle, do not approach and contact 911 immediately,” police advised.
Kingston Police have activated an alert through the Alertable app concerning these occurrences and stated that it will “remain in effect until the incident is resolved.”
Colangeli mentioned that although these acts may have been directed towards specific individuals, this has not been verified yet as investigations continue.
Kingstonist has reached out to police about whether those struck by projectiles reported any injuries.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) and Limestone District School Board (LDSB) have both notified school families they’re aware of these events and are in communication with Kingston Police. Both boards emphasized there’s no threat to student or staff safety within their schools.
