A 41‑year‑old man from Ottawa has died after a boating accident on the St. Lawrence River, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

An OPP press release stated that officers from the Leeds County detachment responded to reports of a capsized boat north of Grenadier Island, located about 55 kilometres northeast of Kingston, shortly after 10 p. m. on Saturday.

A 4.5-metre aluminum boat with several people on board had flipped over and one individual was missing, police reported.

All other passengers managed to reach shore safely, OPP noted.

The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service discovered the missing man unresponsive in the water. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

OPP mentioned that an investigation is ongoing.
