The long sexual assault trial of former neurologist Jeffery “Scott” Sloka concluded in a Kitchener courtroom on Friday.

Sloka was found not guilty on all 48 charges against him, in what has been referred to as one of the most significant sexual assault cases in Waterloo Region’s history. Allegations from numerous former female patients began emerging in 2017, with some going back to 2010.

An investigation commenced in 2018, and by 2019, Sloka lost his medical license. The trial started in 2021.

Shortly after the verdict was announced, the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region (SASC) released a detailed statement.

“Today’s verdict in the Sloka trial is deeply upsetting for many survivors in our community,” it reads. “We know this ruling will bring up a range of emotions including anger, grief, confusion, disbelief, or something harder to name. There is no right way to feel.”

The statement criticized the judicial system, stating, “Our criminal justice system does not consistently deliver justice for survivors of sexual violence.”

SASC provides a 24-hour support line for survivors of sexual violence in our community at (519) 741-8633. They also offer free and confidential counselling services.

SASC Waterloo Region plans to host a Healing Together gathering on May 1, 2026 at its office on Frederick St. in Kitchener.

Participants are encouraged to register beforehand.
