Alectra Utilities has confirmed that power has been restored in both Markham and Richmond Hill following lengthy blackouts that affected thousands of customers on Thursday night.
The outage in Richmond Hill was due to equipment failure, while the blackout in Markham occurred because trees touched power lines.
These outages happened at a bad time, with temperatures hitting the mid 30s on Thursday.
Hydro One also reported multiple outages on Thursday caused by storm activity around Georgian Bay.

“Stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to 911 and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.”
