Gary Clifford Montgomery passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 85. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Gary grew up in Kingston and later moved around various communities in Ontario and Alberta before settling down in Gananoque, Ontario.
Gary was a man of strong values-principled, deeply committed to his family, and proudly self-reliant. He enjoyed good company, a loyal dog by his side, vintage cars, and construction projects that were well thought out and built to last. These interests mirrored both his character and the way he approached life.
He had a successful career in Real Property with Public Works Canada, where he earned a reputation for his hard work, integrity, and commitment to public service.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Ena Montgomery, as well as his brother Richard.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Margaret; his sister Anne; brother Peter; children Misty (Daren), Kevin (Jennifer), and Wesley (Chrissie); along with grandchildren Brooke (Daniel), Morgan (Owen), Samuel, and Koren.
In accordance with Gary’s wishes, there will be a private family gathering. Special thanks to the staff at Granite Ridge Harbour House for their extended care.
If you wish to honor him with a donation, please consider giving to the Ottawa Humane Society.
