EDITOR’S NOTE:  This is a breaking story. Our latest coverage is here.

President Donald Trump was quickly taken off stage by Secret Service after what seemed to be gunfire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday.

Vice President JD Vance and several of Trump’s Cabinet members who were there were also hurried out.

A source informed CNN that Trump is unharmed, while two sources confirmed that Vance is safely out of the dinner. An official from the administration stated that Cabinet members are fine as well.

Several US Secret Service agents shouted, “shots fired” during the event held at the Washington Hilton, according to pool reports.

The Secret Service later announced on X that one individual has been taken into custody.

Trump took to Truth Social to announce that a “shooter has been apprehended” and commend Secret Service and law enforcement for responding “quickly and bravely.”

In a follow-up post shortly after, the president said he was heading back to the White House after law enforcement advised him to leave. Trump mentioned he would hold a press conference soon.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer remarked he was “a few feet away from (a gunman) as he was shooting,” while speaking on air.

“All of a sudden a guy with a weapon, it was a very, very serious weapon, starts shooting, and I happened to have been a few feet away from him as he was shooting,” Blitzer explained.

This story has been updated with additional details.
