A 30-year-old man from Wasaga Beach is facing several charges after an incident at a coffee shop, according to OPP.
The man is accused of property damage, mischief, creating a disturbance, and assaulting a police officer following an event at a coffee shop in Collingwood.
As per the news release from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were called to the coffee shop on First Street around 4 p. m. on May 27.
Reports indicated that someone was throwing rocks at cars passing by and had caused damage to the entrance of the establishment.
“Upon arrival, officers attempted to speak with the suspect, who resisted arrest and assaulted an officer during the incident,” states the news release. “The officer sustained a notable eye injury and was treated at a local hospital before being released.”
James Blackmore, 32, of Wasaga Beach was arrested and charged with:
Assault a Peace Officer – Section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Resist Peace Officer – Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code
Mischief – Destroys or Damages Property – Section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Causing a Disturbance – Section 175(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Public Intoxication – Section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence and Control Act
The suspect has been released from custody and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on June 24, 2025.
