A provincewide warrant has been issued for Waheed Barakziye, 48, of London, Ont., who faces murder charges related to the death of Giovanni Costa in Bolton.
A man from Barrie has been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder as part of an ongoing homicide investigation outside his local area.
Provincial police report that two individuals have been arrested while another is still being sought in connection with a 2020 attempted murder case in Vaughan and a 2021 homicide case in Bolton.
At about 6:30 p. m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, York Regional Police were called to a shooting on Steeles Avenue West in Vaughan. One person was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Then on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, around 12:30 p. m., Caledon OPP responded to another shooting on Harvest Moon Drive in Bolton.
“It was reported that two individuals entered a residence and shot two occupants inside the home, one of whom was the victim from the November 2020 incident in Vaughan,” stated OPP in a news release.
Officers found the other occupant, Giovanni Costa, aged 65 from Bolton, deceased at the scene.
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, Christopher Brown, aged 28 from Barrie, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a firearm with intent, and possession of firearms contrary to prohibition order.
The following day on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, Neheniah Tirfe, aged 25 from Toronto was also arrested and faced charges including first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Both suspects are currently held in custody and are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Thursday, Nov. 20.
No allegations have yet been proven in court.
As part of this ongoing investigation process, a provincewide warrant was released on Wednesday for Waheed Barakziye who is wanted for first-degree murder along with two counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Barakziye is described as standing five-foot-10 and weighing approximately 196 pounds; he is known to visit both London and Greater Toronto areas according to police reports.
“Members of the public are urged not to approach this individual. If seen please contact police immediately,” OPP advised in their release.
The initial incident was initially handled by York Regional Police but both cases are now under investigation by the Caledon OPP Crime Unit under direction from OPP Criminal Investigation Branch officials.
“While these arrests and charges mark a significant step forward, the investigation remains ongoing as we continue searching for more suspects. We encourage anyone with information especially if you recognize the wanted individual, to contact police right away,” said OPP Det. Insp. Steven Martell from Criminal Investigation Branch
The provincial government is offering up to $50 thousand reward for information leading towards arrest or conviction connected to Costa’s homicide case.
