THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue teams swiftly put out an apartment fire in the 300 block of Bay Street after they were alerted to an alarm going off and smoke in the building early in the afternoon.

Fire on Second Floor, No Injuries Reported

The first crew on the scene confirmed that there was smoke inside, leading the officer in charge to call for a second alarm.

This upgraded response brought two additional pumpers and an aerial ladder to join the initial four pumpers and a command unit already deployed.

Firefighters entered the building, headed up to the second floor, and found the fire within one of the apartments. They managed to quickly get it under control by making a rapid entry and applying water right away.

Searches Show Apartment Was Vacant

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reports that crews conducted thorough searches of the affected apartment and verified that there were no people or pets inside.

All other residents had safely evacuated before or during the firefighting efforts.
No injuries or fatalities occurred.

A Reminder About Fire Safety

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is urging residents not to leave cooking unattended.
The specific cause of this fire hasn’t been disclosed in the information released.

Importance of Timely Responses

Apartment fires can spread quickly in multi-unit buildings, so having working alarms, safe evacuations, and prompt fire department responses is essential. In crowded areas like Bay Street, early reporting and quick evacuations help lower risks for residents, firefighters, and neighboring properties.
