Bruce Power is moving forward with early-stage planning for a possible nuclear expansion by partnering with a project management firm to aid in the next steps of its Bruce C initiative.
The company has enlisted Nuclear Promise X to offer project management and technical advisory services while it evaluates the feasibility of adding to its nuclear fleet. This work will involve coordinating planning activities, supporting feasibility studies, assisting with the Impact Assessment process, and aligning technical, regulatory, and stakeholder input as the project progresses.
“Ontario’s demand for clean electricity is growing rapidly, and Bruce C represents a critical option for the Province’s long-term energy planning,” said Laurent Seigle, Executive Vice-President, Projects, Bruce Power. “NPX brings both the right capability as well as the innovative mindset we need, and we look forward to working together as we advance this next phase of evaluation.”
Bruce Power states that this potential expansion is part of its larger effort to meet Ontario’s increasing electricity demands while continuing to provide clean and reliable power.
NPX is also collaborating with Makwa Development, a First Nation-owned business focused on construction, renovation, vegetation management, staff augmentation, and project coordination. The company is owned by members of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and contributes local expertise and community-focused experience to the project.
“Makwa Development is proud to partner with NPX on this important initiative,” said Scott Lee, President of Makwa Development. “This work reflects our commitment to supporting responsible development in our territory and creating meaningful opportunities for our community.”
NPX states that its role will be guiding the initial stages of the project while fostering a collaborative approach that includes technical expertise, community engagement, and Indigenous participation.
“Bruce Power continues to demonstrate leadership in planning responsibly for Ontario’s energy future,” said Bharath Nangia, Chief Executive Officer, Nuclear Promise X. “We think this is perhaps the most important project in Ontario and Canada, and we are proud to serve as the Project Management partner for Bruce C.”
The partners believe this collaboration aims to ensure a thoughtful and coordinated approach as Ontario considers expanding nuclear generation at the Bruce site while focusing on long-term energy planning and sustainable development.
