In the aftermath of a tragic accident in Puslinch Township that claimed the lives of four teenagers and sent two others to the hospital, the community is still reeling from the loss.

“We understand that a tragedy like this affects everyone deeply, not just those directly involved but also the wider community,” Mayor James Seeley wrote in a post on the township’s Facebook page Monday evening.

“We also want to recognize the first responders who arrived at the scene and those who continue to provide care and support to all impacted. We appreciate their dedication under such tough circumstances.”

Emergency crews were dispatched to Watson Road South just north of Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch Township shortly after 1:30 a. m. ET Saturday due to a single-vehicle accident.

The rural area is roughly 14 kilometers south of Guelph. There’s an S-curve there, with a speed limit reducing from 50 km/h to 40 km/h, along with a sign warning drivers, “Slow: dangerous curve ahead.”

The deceased include two males-both aged 19, one hailing from Mississauga and another from Brampton-a 17-year-old girl from Mississauga, and a 15-year-old girl from Milton.

Two other individuals were hospitalized: a 17-year-old girl suffering life-altering injuries and a 16-year-old girl with injuries that aren’t life-threatening, both residents of Mississauga.

Road Remains Closed for Repairs

Ontario Provincial Police Insp. Karen Medeiros mentioned at a news conference Sunday that this crash “has affected numerous families, schools, friend groups, and communities across southern Ontario.”

Medeiros stated that investigators will examine whether speeding or seatbelt usage played any role.

As of Tuesday, Watson Road South remains closed while township crews work on repairing guardrails near where the crash took place.

Four teenagers from the Greater Toronto Area lost their lives and two others were injured in this single-vehicle accident in Puslinch-a town southeast of Guelph. The vehicle veered off course, hit a guardrail, and plunged into a ravine close to Watson Road S. and Wellington Road 34. Ontario Provincial Police are looking into this incident further. CBC’s Dale Manucdoc has more.

Peel School Board Offers Support

In a statement released Monday, Peel District School Board expressed being “deeply saddened by the deaths of four young people in this collision, including one current student and two former students.”

“Our thoughts are also with the two young people who were injured as well as their families and friends.”

The board noted they are providing ongoing support for students, families, and staff “for as long as it’s necessary.”

spoke with students outside Streetsville Secondary School in Mississauga-one victim was currently attending school there while another had recently graduated.

“My gym teacher mentioned during our talk this morning that all we can do right now is pray for the families impacted,” one student shared.

Local Neighbor Shares Concerns About Speeding on Road

David Jones resides along the stretch where the accident occurred and expressed his sorrow for their families.
Jones told about his own son’s passing years ago.
“I know how people feel when something like this happens,” Jones remarked near his home following the crash while adding he was considering how it might impact first responders.
“I wouldn’t want to be among those having to respond-I can tell you that.”
Jones said he didn’t hear anything when it happened early Saturday but woke up only to find police blocking off the road.
Authorities continue looking into what caused it; Jones pointed out he’s noticed some drivers speeding along that part.
“There are many who drive too fast. There are plenty of good drivers too who follow speed limits,” he said.
He commented about “some tricky turns and steep hills” around there but mentioned local drivers typically heed signs warning them to slow down.
Police request anyone with information or dashcam footage related to this incident reach out to Wellington County OPP.
