The U. S. Coast Guard has shared the names of the four Canadians aboard the medical air transport jet from Hamilton that went missing in the Atlantic Ocean while heading to Boston from Bermuda early Saturday morning.
On Monday night, the Coast Guard reported that the Canadian crew included Philip Gregory Childerhose from Oakville, Ont., Thomas Henry Farquhar of Brantford, Ont., Niagara nurse Sarah Jane Paton, and Jolene Beth Weir.
The crew departed Bermuda with two Bermudians on a Gulfstream G100 jet operated by Latitude Air Ambulance based in Hamilton.
Earlier that day, the Bermuda government identified the Bermudians onboard as 66-year-old Marilyn Lavonne Bean and her 41-year-old son, Sergio Wayne Lottimore. Guard confirmed their identities as passengers.

“During this incredibly difficult time, our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends impacted by this tragic incident,” stated Rear Adm. Matthew Lake, commander of the Coast Guard Northeast District, in a news release Monday night. “We are grateful to the crews and partner agencies who quickly responded to this incident and we will continue to support our Canadian partners as they conduct their investigation.”
That same night, Latitude president Peter Byl mentioned in a statement that while the Coast Guard released his company’s crew members’ names, these individuals were more than just names.
“They were colleagues, friends and members of our family. Each brought something special to our company, to those they worked alongside and to patients and families entrusted to their care,” he noted.
Childerhose Remembered for His Integrity
He described Philip Childerhose, who served as captain, as “a person of great integrity, incredibly kind-hearted and extremely passionate about aviation. He was dedicated to his family, friends and colleagues. He touched the hearts of everyone he talked to and helped anyone who was in need.”
A Linked In profile for Childerhose is now marked “in remembrance” stating he lived in Oakville.
Byl referred to first officer Thomas Farquhar as a “gentle giant” reflecting Jesus’ love: a safe haven and helping hand for all.
“Tommy was loved by everyone who ever met him.”
A Linked In profile lists Farquhar as hailing from Brantford.
Paton Remembered for Her Selflessness
Flight nurse Sarah Paton “was a bright presence whose kindness humor and generosity touched everyone around her,” Byl said. “A dedicated nurse; she devoted her life to caring for others and was known by her family as selfless hardworking determined and full of life. She was larger-than-life daughter family member friend; her loved ones find some comfort knowing she was doing what mattered most: helping others.”
“Sarah will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love she brought into those around her.”
Hospital network Niagara Health sent out a memorial notice about Paton who worked at Marotta Family Hospital’s intensive care unit in St. Catharines Ont.
The memorial stated she also worked at Welland Hospital’s emergency department. p>
