A 32-year-old woman from Cambridge has died, and her two-year-old son is critically injured after a head-on crash involving a pickup truck and a minivan just outside Hamilton on Tuesday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that officers from the Burlington detachment responded to calls about the collision on Highway 5, just east of Highway 8, around 7 a. m.
According to investigators, a westbound pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old man from Millgrove, Ont., collided head-on with an eastbound minivan operated by a 35-year-old man from Cambridge, Ont.
Police confirmed with City News Kitchener that there were three family members in the minivan.
The OPP stated that the 32-year-old woman who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the minivan was declared dead at the scene.
The two-year-old boy who was in the back of the minivan sustained critical injuries and was taken to a local children’s hospital for care.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, officials said.
This incident has led to an extensive investigation by the OPP. The identities of those involved have not been released.
Investigators mentioned that charges are pending as they work to uncover what caused this tragic crash.
