The White House has introduced a new webpage aimed at alerting U. S. families to the “real cost of Socialism,” as part of an effort to counter the influence of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) within the Democratic Party.
This webpage, developed by the White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), focuses on DSA policy proposals included in its Workers Deserve More program. The White House claims these policies could lead to about $49 trillion in federal deficits over ten years, from 2027 to 2036. That breaks down to around $355,000 in extra costs for every household in America.
“Medicare for All alone accounts for $47.4 trillion. The smaller items look cheap on the budget, until you see what they do to the economy,” the webpage states.
The site outlines its assessment of how DSA’s other policy commitments would affect the economy. It estimates that implementing DSA’s proposal to cancel student debt and provide free college for all U. S. students could result in $3.6 trillion in deficits; a 32-hour work week could add $920 billion; universal rent control might cost $16 billion; the Green New Deal would bring about a deficit of $370 billion; and open borders and amnesty could lead to an additional $527 billion expense. According to White House estimates, DSA’s proposed wealth tax is expected to generate $3.94 trillion.

The administration asserts that these impacts on the federal budget would translate into an estimated $57 trillion in new taxes for American citizens.
“The wealth tax raises $3.9 trillion and costs the economy $8.6 trillion. Rent control destroys $546 billion in economic value,” says the website. “About $4.9 trillion a year would have to be financed either by borrowing or by tax increases. CEA estimated both paths’ effects, and both are dramatically costly for Americans’ pocketbooks.”
The page also includes a tool allowing users to assess how Socialist policies might impact their personal finances.

Referring specifically to Massachusetts, where per capita income stands at $57,897 according to recent census data, the White House suggests that DSA policies could reduce workers’ take-home pay by approximately $16,472 annually or about $1,373 monthly due to increased taxes needed for their agenda.
The census indicates that median household income in Massachusetts is around $103,960, which under DSA policies is estimated to drop down to just $74,764 after taxes.
Massachusetts lawmakers to take up federal census changes
This month on Beacon Hill, lawmakers will address concerns regarding proposed federal changes related to the upcoming 2030 U. S. census amid rising national debates over illegal immigration’s impact on population counts.
The Senate Committee on Census is set for hearings scheduled on October 14th that will specifically examine modifications around residency criteria excluding most non-citizens from counts as well as how seasonal residents will be accounted for among other topics.
“The proposed changes would eliminate questions related to race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation while excluding most non-citizens from apportionment counts and altering how seasonal residents are counted,” reads a description regarding this hearing found on legislation websites.
This session marks only one part out of two covering potential consequences stemming from what committee members describe as “significant changes” suggested for future censuses.
“It will include testimony and presentations from experts and public officials about how these proposed adjustments regarding residency criteria might affect Massachusetts if implemented by 2030,” it notes with particular emphasis placed upon group quarters treatment alongside seasonal resident evaluations alongside exclusions affecting non-citizen populations.”
A key focus point anticipated during discussions includes exclusionary measures targeting non-citizen populations which may garner varied opinions among committee members comprising five Democrats alongside one Republican – state Senator Ryan Fattman being noted here specifically as standing alone within party ranks.”
A bill filed back in early 2025 led by Vice-chair Rebecca Rausch (D-Norfolk/Worcester/Middlesex) aims towards establishing something called “Massachusetts Census Equity Commission”, tasked with ensuring full enumeration exists surrounding any communities facing undercounts including illegal immigrant groups.
This hearing is slated begin promptly at 1 pm October fourteenth.
