Trina Chakrabarti, a singer-songwriter from Guelph, Ontario, has just released her new single “Take A Stance.” This song is intentionally minimalistic and serves as a protest anthem where the lyrics take center stage. Unlike her first EP, ‘Underworld,’ which used myth and metaphor to explore personal struggles, “Take A Stance” cuts out the allegory completely. “I wanted this song to be more stripped down, and really have the lyrics shine,” Chakrabarti shares. “Just like I want to embrace the anger of my personal experiences, I believe in embracing the anger from world issues.”

The inspiration for the song came from two moments of frustration that really struck Chakrabarti. As a registered music therapist, she wrote the first verse after noticing how some colleagues prioritized professional language over acknowledging the human impact of what they were discussing. The second verse was inspired by her reaction to public responses regarding escalating conflicts involving Iran. The song then expands into a larger commentary on complicity and silence, all delivered without any metaphors to obscure its meaning. “This track has no metaphors,” she states. “It is calling out the hypocrisy so directly, because with this topic, metaphors just are not enough.”

The chorus emphasizes shared responsibility with lines like “there’s power in the people when we choose to take a stance.” Meanwhile, an extended outro turns into a chant listing various regions affected by occupation that Chakrabarti believes deserve more attention globally-places like Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Hawaiʻi, Kashmir, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, Lebanon, Syria, Myanmar and Ukraine-with each chant concluding with “free them all.” Throughout the song she repeats the phrase “none of us are free till all of us are free,” drawing inspiration from Black activists such as Maya Angelou and Malcolm X. She expresses: “We owe each other everything,” adding that being in community means supporting one another.

For Chakrabarti, this track feels deeply personal as well as political. Her family history reflects experiences related to colonization and partitioning; thus speaking out feels like an obligation rather than simply a choice for her. A portion of the earnings from “Take A Stance” will go directly to help a friend’s family in Palestine. “You don’t need a giant platform to take action,” she emphasizes. “Using your voice is more and more important every day, and it is never too late to speak out.”

Produced by Ruthie Santiago who also mixed and mastered it while Chakrabarti took care of lyrics, melody, vocals, and ukulele herself,“Take A Stance” follows her 2024 debut EP ‘Underworld.’ This earlier project reimagined Hades’ myth alongside Persephone’s journey focusing on themes like trauma anger grief chronic illness-all developed with producer Wonder Truly along with musicians met through Twitch streaming.

Chakrabarti holds both a graduate diplomaand master’s degree in Music Therapy from Concordia University plus training at The Royal Conservatory of Music. Currently, she balances part-time work as registered music therapist alongside her career recording. She identifies as belonging to Desi , Queer , and Disabled communities describes her art style focusing on blending genres while exploring personal experiences through social justice lens.“Art has ability create meaningful change,”she remarks,“if there is one piece advice I can give, is make your human-made creations even if nobody sees it.”

Looking ahead , Chakrabarti mentioned that her upcoming single“Something Like Hope”will serve as an introductiontoher next full-length album continuinga collection dedicatedto transforming challenging experiences, both personaland global , into impactful songs meantto resonate directly.
