After many years of waiting and several deadline extensions, the future of the Cedar Crescent Village project in Port Elgin is now uncertain.
The Town of Saugeen Shores has announced that it’s getting ready to take legal action that could lead to ending the development’s lease.
In a statement on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Town explained that it has made extensive efforts with developer 2706913 Ontario Inc. to push the waterfront project forward. The Council had previously extended timelines, including moving the completion date to September 2026, after granting building permits and approving changes meant to keep construction progressing.
However, the Town states that a significant construction milestone set for February 2 was not achieved, and progress hasn’t met what was required under the agreements for the project. Following a thorough review, the municipality is now taking steps to enforce its rights under both the lease and servicing agreements.
Cedar Crescent Village was imagined as a key part of the community’s waterfront master plan, designed to be a year-round hub featuring shops, dining options and public gathering spaces close to Port Elgin’s Main Beach. Permits for both phases were issued in 2023, which raised hopes that this long-discussed development would finally become a reality.
With legal proceedings anticipated, the Town mentions that it can’t share much information publicly at this time and is asking residents for patience as things unfold.
