A two-vehicle accident seriously hurt a 25-year-old female motorcyclist in Grays Harbor County on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 4 p. m. at milepost 35 of U. S. Route 12 in Oakville, located just west of Thurston County, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol.
The motorcyclist from Oakesdale made a right turn onto eastbound US 12 from Second Street, as noted in the memo.
At the same time, a 50-year-old pickup truck driver from Oakville was traveling west on US 12 at Second Street. The memo indicates that the motorcyclist lost control, crossed the center line, and collided with the truck. The motorcycle came to rest in the westbound lane while the truck ended up on the westbound shoulder.
First responders airlifted the injured motorcyclist to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment, according to the memo. She was reportedly wearing a compliant helmet.
The truck driver had his seatbelt on and was unharmed, per the memo.
The cause of this collision is still being investigated; however, troopers have ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors.
The road was completely blocked off, and drivers were advised to use Second Street as a detour, Trooper Katherine Weatherwax shared on X.
