A senior man has sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car in Whitby on Monday morning.
The incident took place near Taunton Road East and Mc Kinney Drive, just east of Brock Street North.
According to Durham Regional Police Services, they were alerted to the area around 8:35 a. m. regarding a collision.
Investigators report that a 44-year-old man was driving a Honda sedan south on Mc Kinney Drive when he made a left turn and struck a 91-year-old man using a “mobility assister” scooter as he crossed northbound in the crosswalk.
The elderly man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, police stated.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
The Collision Investigation Unit arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation, leading to road closures for several hours while they gathered evidence.
