LOWERISON, Thomas Blair – He passed away peacefully at Pembroke Regional Hospital on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026 in his 86th year.
Tom grew up in a big family and learned early about the importance of family, hard work, and making the best of what you have. Those lessons stuck with him throughout his life. Because of this background, he dedicated himself to ensuring that those around him were always well cared for. His home was always welcoming; along with his wife, they made sure that no friend, neighborhood kid, or surprise guest ever left their home hungry.
As a young man, Tom joined the military and proudly served for over 20 years. He was a diligent worker and an incredibly loyal person who valued looking after his family and friends.
Tom was also a fantastic softball player. He excelled as a pitcher on military teams as well as local teams. In his younger days, he had quite the spirited side – sometimes quite literally. He enjoyed having a drink, didn’t shy away from a good fight when necessary, and could hold his own against anyone.
He wasn’t one for many words. Tom appreciated his alone time and wasn’t one to openly show his feelings; however, it didn’t take long to see how much he cared for others. Just put a child or dog in front of him and that calm demeanor would vanish. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved him dearly; animals naturally found their way to him too. Around them, you could see a playful side of Tom that not everyone got to witness.
Over the years, that same quiet kindness extended far beyond just his immediate family. Though he didn’t easily express how he felt, his actions spoke volumes about his character. Many of his kids’ friends and local children were welcomed into their home like family; more than a few came to view him as another father figure.
At home too was the Tom who could be heard singing or whistling down the hallway; the dad who enjoyed drinks on the back deck after long days at work; the man who relished being around others just as much as he valued retreating into solitude afterward.
After nearly 59 years of marriage filled with hard work raising children while serving his country along with friendships forged through countless softball games and shared meals at their family table, Tom’s life can be summed up simply: He was a good man. A loyal man. A hardworking man who appreciated what he had without hesitation in sharing it with others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him – including many dogs – whether they called him family or just plain Tom.
He is survived by Lois, his wife of nearly 59 years; children Crystal (Ed), Steven (Jennifer), Lisa (Hugh), Angelia and Tom; sister Jeannie; brother Dino; plus numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews-and all those whom he took into consideration over time as part of his extended family. We find comfort knowing that Daniel, his first grandchild will be there waiting to welcome Papa Tom home.
A special shoutout goes to Donna for developing an extraordinary bond with Tom over time-she affectionately called him “Pops,” which became endearing for many of us too. Donna grew close enough to feel like another daughter to Dad whom he loved dearly.
Dad’s final year saw Donna stepping up without any prompting when care was needed from her side-she simply noticed Pops needed help so she jumped right in naturally taking on responsibilities such as medical appointments among other needs during this period until everything wrapped up nicely towards then end stage regardless. Her presence provided Dad not only physical support but also lifted spirits through laughter keeping mind engaged encouraging positivity allowing longer enjoyment amidst challenges faced together which meant more than anyone could understand within our families journey ahead!
