1944- 2026

Dr David Keith Evans was born on September 26, 1944, in Toronto, to David and Irene Evans. He passed away on September 10, 2026, in Bracebridge, Ontario.

Keith was a scientist who had a natural curiosity throughout his life. He earned an Honours BSc from the University of Toronto and a Ph D in Physics from the University of Chicago. After completing a National Research Council fellowship, he joined Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. There, he conducted advanced research at the laser lab at Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories and later worked as a professional engineer. He was part of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.

Above all else, Keith loved sharing his knowledge and curiosity with others. He found joy in the wonders of science and passed that excitement on to his children and grandchildren.

Fourteen years ago, Keith experienced a stroke. Through incredible determination, he made a recovery and remained himself in the years that followed. He enjoyed running, playing squash and golf, as well as both playing and refereeing hockey. An enthusiastic skier for both cross-country and downhill skiing, he cherished family ski trips. His love for food and wine was evident; he enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends.

The cottage in Kilworthy that Keith built with his father Dave and grandfather Tom has been part of the family since 1952 and held great significance for him. After retiring from Atomic Energy of Canada in 2003, he lived in Oakville for several years before settling most recently in Gravenhurst.

Keith is survived by his wife, Lorna Elizabeth (Hymmen); daughter Sarah Louise with her husband Paul (Corr); son Sean Thomas; granddaughters Rebecca, Ocean, and Alexandra; along with his brother Paul Gordon Evans. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride.

A celebration of life will be organized at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Keith’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Arrangements entrusted to Adams Funeral Home
