The County of Renfrew and the Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance (NOFIA) are teaming up to host the 2021 North & Eastern Ontario Local Food Conference online, in collaboration with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).
This year’s theme is “Local Food More Than Ever,” and the sessions will dive into valuable insights gained during a global pandemic that can help strengthen local food businesses and organizations.
In previous years, this event took place only in Eastern Ontario, gathering those involved in the local food scene to learn and connect. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, there’s now a chance to hold the conference virtually, making it accessible for participants from Northern Ontario as well.
This new setup will feature a series of free webinars showcasing various perspectives on local food.
Throughout March, each session will kick off at 10:00 a. m., with virtual participatory chef-led luncheons happening at noon on March 17 and 31.
The sessions include:
March 10th – “Local Food More Than Ever: Harvesting the Lessons of COVID-19” March 17th – “Navigating Agri-Tourism During a Pandemic” with a chef-led “Taste of the North” participatory lunch at noon March 24th – “Surviving and Thriving: The Resilience of Local Food” March 31st – “Innovations in the Local Food Frontier: Greenhouse, Vertical Farming, Aquaculture, Aquaponics” with a chef-led “Taste of Renfrew County” participatory lunch at noon
