FARMINGTON – Kamryn Kennedy tied the game with a powerful swing, overcoming an early three-run deficit, but the Farmington softball team just couldn’t quite pull it off.
Lola Seawel struck out nine batters over seven innings and also contributed with two singles at the plate, helping Oakville secure a 6-5 victory on Monday.
Freshman catcher Dixie Belz had a solid outing, going 2-for-3 with a walk and scoring twice, which helped Oakville (3-6) break their three-game losing streak.
Seawel gave up five runs – three of them earned – on two hits but managed to finish strong in the seventh after walking four batters earlier.
Farmington (3-5) was down 3-0 until Kylen Knight and Tristen Williams drew consecutive walks in the fourth. Kennedy then launched a tying home run to center field.
The Tigers responded with three runs against Knights senior Andi Hogan in the fifth. Peyton Kern hustled down the line to beat out an infield hit to second base.
Belz hit a single to center, Alton walked, and Ellie Tillman got hit by a pitch to bring in the go-ahead run. Seawel followed with an RBI single, while Addison Kristof added another run with a sacrifice fly that made it 6-3.
Jadyn Abernathy reached base with an infield single, and Kennedy picked up her fourth RBI on a sacrifice fly before Williams scored due to an error in Farmington’s sixth inning. However, they couldn’t capitalize as a strikeout left the potential tying run stranded at second base.
Hogan pitched all seven innings for Farmington, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out four batters. She was charged with three unearned runs during the first inning.
Seawel loaded the bases for Oakville after hitting a one-out single through the left side; however, Hogan induced what looked like an easy grounder on the turf.
Kennedy cleanly fieldedfrom her spot at third base but threw wide over catcher Kam Dotson’s head as two runners crossed home plate.
A subsequent ground out from Olivia May added to their lead at 2-0. May later singled again in the fourth inning.
