A serious incident has raised concerns about road safety, as a 58-year-old cyclist from Markham sustained critical injuries after being hit by a pickup truck in East Gwillimbury. The crash took place on Wednesday around noon at the intersection of Doane Road and Warden Avenue. According to the York Regional Police, the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided. The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are requesting anyone who has information or dashcam footage from that area during the time of the incident to step forward. This unfortunate event highlights the risks cyclists face on roadways and emphasizes the need for all road users to be vigilant.
