Terry, Dad, Papa Bear, Uncle Terry, Coach, Mr. J, TJ
Just weeks after celebrating his wonderful milestone of turning 80 with visits and messages from friends and family around the globe, Terrence Cleland Johnston “Terry” has passed away at Parkwood Hospital. He is survived by his wife Jill (Brash); his children Eric and Jen (Mc Gillis), Sarah and Dan (Oughton), Kate, and Ian and Emily (Wilkinson); his grandchildren Eli, Davis, Evie, Cooper, Griffey, Addy, and Isla; as well as his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great niece, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and many cousins; along with thousands of students he taught and mentored since 1970. Terry was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Annie Duff and his sister Carolyn Ingram.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Hsia, Dr. Franco, Dr. Wang, and Dr. Kim for their compassionate care throughout Terry’s medical journey. Special thanks also go to the amazing nurses at IV Therapy for their unwavering support and encouragement. We are especially thankful for our wonderful “family” of nurses and staff at Parkwood Palliative Care Unit. Their kindness made our last few months together truly special.
If you’d like to honor Terry’s memory in some way, he requests that you consider donating blood. Since being diagnosed with leukaemia on Boxing Day 2022, Terry received blood transfusions nearly every week. The generosity of strangers helped him keep up his strength and love for life.
Terry donated his brain for concussion research before cremation took place. For anyone who wishes to attend a gathering in remembrance of him, the family is planning a celebration of Terry’s life in his former high school gym in Seaforth Ontario; the date is yet to be determined.
