Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into the deaths of a man and woman found inside a vehicle in South Frontenac after they ran from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) reported that an OPP officer approached a male driver in a parked car shortly after midnight on Monday, following reports of a “suspicious car” that turned out to be stolen.
The man took off and was later involved in a single-vehicle crash on Bedford Road, north of Kingston, Ont., according to the SIU.
The driver and a female passenger were discovered dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been revealed.
As of late Monday morning, Bedford Road was closed between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane while investigators worked on the case, said the OPP.
The force mentioned it wouldn’t share any more details about the crash and directed all inquiries to the SIU.
Three investigators, two forensic experts, and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to this case, as stated in an SIU news release.
