A significant rental housing project at 26 Grove St. W. in Barrie is close to finishing, with the final phase set to introduce 365 purpose-built rental homes to the local housing market.
Tower B is almost finished, and work on Tower C is just beginning.
When all three towers are done, this development will offer a total of 930 rental units, including affordable housing made possible through the City’s Development Charge Deferral Program.
Tower C will feature 73 affordable rental homes within its 365 units.
The initiative is also anticipated to enhance capacity within Simcoe County’s subsidized housing system. Under a deal with the County, up to 32 families currently in subsidized housing will have the chance to transition into new affordable units at the site as they become available.
“This is what strong partnerships look like,” Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall said. “The city is working to create the conditions for more housing.
“Sky Dev is delivering new affordable rental opportunities. And the County is helping ensure these homes create the greatest possible impact for residents across our community.”
This development arrives as Barrie continues to see population growth and a rising demand for rental options.
The city council has prioritized expanding both rental and affordable housing availability as a key goal.
