We are heartbroken to share the news of the peaceful passing of Luanna Luxton Armstrong, age 83, from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She passed away on August 23, 2026, at Ball Hospice House. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on June 24, 1943, she was the daughter of Arthur and Celestine Luxton.

Luanna attended Loretto Catholic High School in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, before moving to Toronto, Ontario, to study Interior Decorating at Ryerson University. As she started her family, she supported them by teaching dance in the basement of her home in Dundas, Ontario-a talent she had nurtured since she was three years old.

As her family expanded, she kept teaching dance from her basement in Bolton, Ontario. Eventually, an old barn was transformed into a dance studio and theater that became known as Simpson Place.

She ran her Luanna Luxton School of Dance and Performing Arts there for nearly two decades. They also organized a Rotary Summer Theater Festival and an annual natural health and metaphysical event called The Festival of Light.

In the late 1990s, Luanna returned to her roots and married her high school sweetheart Greg Armstrong. Together they settled on Sugar Island.

For several years, she led a community dance program at Lake Superior State University before opening the Academy of Performing Arts with studios at Big Bear and hosting annual performances at Kewadin Theatre in Sault Ste. Marie.

Luanna became an essential part of the Sault Community by sharing her talents and enthusiasm through events like the annual Madrigal and involvement with the Chamber of Commerce.

She felt fortunate to have built a career around her love for dance and theater while touching the lives of many wonderful students who helped bring her shows to life each year.

Her presence brought joy into our lives and she will be greatly missed.

Luanna is survived by her husband Greg Armstrong; daughter Samantha (Warren) Richmond; son Adam Simpson; grandchildren Olivia Richmond, Evan Richmond, Kyla Imre, and Jameson Kelly; sister Maryellen (Ed) Poluck; and brother Joe (Rachel) Luxton.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Celestine Luxton; along with sister Juanita Joliquer.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Holy Name of Mary Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church located at 337 Maple St., Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon.

Luanna’s final resting place will be Riverside Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Luanna to Hospice of the EUP at 308 W. 12th Ave., Sault Ste. Marie MI 49783.

Family Life Funeral Homes – Sault Ste. Marie assisted with arrangements for the family. Condolences can be shared with them at www. familylifefh. com.
