Hrair Darakdjian, affectionately known as “Happy Harry,” peacefully left us on August 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 8, 1941, in Beirut, Lebanon, and was the beloved son of the late Yeremia and Nouritza Darakdjian. He is now reunited with his dear siblings Asadour (Angel), Mislehem (Bedros), Marie, and Shoushan (Krikor).
In 1965, Hrair married Annie (née Engeian), the love of his life. Their incredible journey together lasted for 61 years and was filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories. They created a family-centered life first in Lebanon and then in Canada after settling there in 1973. In his early years, Hrair worked as a talented shoemaker who took great pride in his craft. After moving to Canada, he started a new chapter by working hard in the automotive sector with Chrysler and later General Motors. At the same time, he followed his entrepreneurial dreams by owning Pickwick Shoe Repair-a business he ran with dedication until he retired over twenty years ago.
Hrair found joy in simple pleasures and had an immense capacity for love. He loved watching western movies that reminded him of classic heroes and timeless stories. A true family man at heart, he cherished every moment spent with those he loved-whether hosting lively holiday celebrations or sharing a meal together. Known for his relaxed demeanor and contagious humor, Hrair had a special way of making everyone around him feel happy and comfortable. He actively participated in the Windsor/Detroit Armenian Community.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted wife Annie; children Lena (Vartan), Ara (Debbie), and Christopher (Sandy). His grandchildren-Tamar (Sean), Maral (Marius), Joshua, Alyssa, Andrew, Nathan, and Allyson-along with his great-grandson Gabriel will always hold onto fond memories of their kind-hearted grandfather. Hrair also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were all close to him.
The family wants to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Heron Terrace in Birdsview for their compassionate care during Hrair’s final days. Instead of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Hrair to the Armenian Relief Society (ARS).
A visitation will take place at St. Charbel Parish (5700 Outer Dr., Oldcastle, ON) on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 12 pm until the funeral mass starts at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens (1100 Division Rd., Windsor, ON).
