London police have charged five men from outside communities who reportedly engaged in reckless driving during a large vehicle event in the city’s south end earlier this year.
The London Police Service (LPS) reacted to reports of dangerous driving behavior in a commercial parking lot on Roxburgh Road around 9 p. m. on May 9. LPS road safety investigators later reviewed video footage linked to the incident.
“The LPS reminds all motorists that public roads and parking lots are not appropriate places for stunts, racing or other dangerous driving activities,” police said. “Drivers are responsible for ensuring they operate their vehicles safely, obey traffic laws, and consider the safety of everyone around them, including passengers, pedestrians and other road users.”
Following the investigation, five men from areas outside of London – Fort Erie, Milverton, Walkteron and West Lorne – were identified and collectively charged with 74 highway traffic act and vehicle-related offenses. Additionally, five vehicles were impounded and towed.
The charges include stunt driving, unsafe vehicle operation and various vehicle equipment violations, according to police.
The public is encouraged to report any dangerous driving or suspicious vehicle activity when it’s safe to do so. Anyone with information about the gathering is asked to contact LPS or Crime Stoppers.
