We are heartbroken to share that Sandra Patricia Butcher passed away at the age of 73 on August 4, 2026, at ARCH Hospice. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments.
Sandra fought valiantly against Acute Myeloid Leukemia and demonstrated incredible strength throughout her journey. Even on tough days, she made it a point to check in on others and ensure everyone felt included and comfortable.
Her devoted husband, Doug Butcher, will hold her memory close. Together, they complemented each other perfectly like two sides of a coin.
Friends and family will remember Sandra for her sharp wit, delightful sense of humor, and remarkable ability to keep track of everyone’s plans.
Sandra’s loving daughter Sarah Bonin (Lucien) and her two grandchildren Carter (Emily) and Cara will miss her dearly; she adored them both.
Brought into this world on February 11, 1953, in Great Yarmouth, England, she was the eldest daughter of the late Frank Cutting and the late Gwen Shepherd. She is survived by her sisters Linda Seabrook (Kelvin) and Debbie Cutting; brothers Paul Cutting (Sue) and John Cutting (Cathy); along with stepfather Patrick Shepherd. Sadly predeceased by her infant sister Jacqueline and grandmother Ada Huggins.
She was also predeceased by parents-in-law James Butcher (Vera) and Muriel Butcher as well as brother-in-law Frank Butcher (Doreen). Surviving is brother-in-law Bill Butcher (Wendy).
Sandra cherished being an aunt to late Jonathan Rackham; Daniel Rackham; Laura Duke (John); Rosie Cutting (Rob); Kirsty Dury (Karl); Charlotte Cutting (Jonathan); Glen Cutting (Naomi); Martin Cutting; Steve Butcher (Christine); Erin Harper (Eric); Jessica Butcher; and Brittany Ruicci (Travis).
Auntie Sasa to Scarlett, Nadia, and Parker Duke held a special place in their hearts along with Matthew, Sienna, Chloe, and Palin. She always treasured memories from growing up with her aunts and uncles. Her extended family in England as well as Ontario remained close to her heart despite any distance.
A huge Blue Jays fan since 1977, one of Sandra’s best memories was watching them win the World Series in 1992. She warned us that baseballs would be thrown from heaven if they didn’t improve their game!
Her home became famous for hosting epic pool parties where family and friends gathered to laugh together while creating lasting memories.
Sandra had a fun-loving spirit filled with laughter. Her quick humor could brighten anyone’s day. Proudly known as “dance grandma,” she loved attending dance competitions alongside her daughter, granddaughter, or friends while cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines.
This past year marked a special milestone when Sandra and Doug celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary at ARCH-a true reflection of their love over the years.
The family wants to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team at ARCH Hospice for their kindness during this difficult time. They helped make Sandra’s stay peaceful. Special thanks also go out to Dr. White and Dr. Booth from the palliative care team as well as staff at Sault Area Hospital and Health Sciences North in Sudbury for all they did for Sandra during her illness.
<p. As per Sandra’s wishes there won’t be any public ceremony; instead a private service will take place.
