The “For Sale” sign had been displayed since November of last year, and the closing sales kicked off back in January.
Now, the well-known Toys ‘R’ Us store on Fairway Road is officially closed for good.
Thursday was the final day for customers to browse the empty shelves and say farewell to a place that has served local families for 40 years.
A message on the door said, “To our loyal customers, THANK YOU for your support, kindness and trust. It has been our privilege to serve this community, and we are truly grateful for the memories we’ve shared! Your Friend: Geoffrey”

In June, an Ontario court allowed the company to break up and sell its business to three buyers. This includes its current owner who aims to either keep running it or give it a new brand.
The sales were part of efforts to help the struggling retailer pay off some of its substantial debt that built up before it filed for creditor protection in February.
Many other Toys “R’ Us locations have already closed down, including the one at Stone Road Mall in Guelph.
