On Saturday, federal meteorologists announced a severe thunderstorm warning for Toronto and much of southern Ontario.

According to Environment Canada, a weather system was expected to bring heavy rain and hail the size of quarters to regions stretching from Oshawa in the east to Kitchener in the west.

The areas north of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including Lindsay, Newmarket, and Georgina, were also under a severe thunderstorm warning.

This warning concluded just before 7:30 p. m.

A red tornado warning had been issued for the Waterloo Region but has since been lifted.

Thousands of power outages were reported throughout the province.

The forecast for Sunday predicts mostly sunny skies, with clouds returning by evening along with rain showers in cottage country. These showers are expected to continue into Monday morning with isolated thunderstorms.
