For brothers Patrick and Christopher Butters, the two months before Thanksgiving and Halloween are essential for their farming business.
“There’s no time for taking any time off in that window because with pumpkins, once Halloween and Thanksgiving have happened, nobody’s buying a pumpkin,” said Patrick, 35.
Each mid-August, the brothers start harvesting unique decorative crops, including pumpkins, gourds and corn, on just 500 acres of the 5,500-acre Butters Farms, located about eight kilometres east of St. Thomas in Elgin County.
