There will be temporary partial lane closures and some overnight road closures until Aug. 12 as crews work on the street circuit.

With the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy taking place in Markham from Aug. 14 to 16 in Markham Centre, residents should anticipate temporary road closures, nighttime construction, race-day noise, and a chance to win free tickets.

What roads will be closed?

Temporary partial lane closures and intermittent overnight road closures began on July 19 and will last until Aug. 12 to prepare the street circuit.

The majority of overnight closures are scheduled from 9 p. m. to 6 a. m., but the city noted that construction times might change based on weather conditions. Emergency vehicles will still have full access during this period.

Starting at 9 p. m. on Aug. 12, there will be complete road closures until 6 a. m. on Aug. 18 for race weekend activities and the dismantling of the temporary circuit.

Affected roads include:

Main Street Unionville (south of Highway 7). Unionville Gate. South Unionville Avenue. Enterprise Boulevard. University Boulevard. YMCA Boulevard. Kennedy Road (south of Highway 7 to south of Highway 407). Highway 407 interchange ramps.

The city advises residents to avoid unnecessary travel near the race circuit during this time and follow detour signs and electronic message boards.

You can find a full list of traffic impacts and detour details on the city’s website.

How noisy will it get on race day?

Residents living close to the track should brace for higher noise levels during race weekend.

The city states that noise from the Indy cars will sound similar to a rock concert between 9 a. m. and 6 p. m., with practice sessions, qualifying, and race day happening from Aug. 14 to 16.

You may also hear sporadic noise from engine testing, support races, and track preparations leading up to the event.

The schedule is as follows:

Practice sessions: Aug. 14. Qualifying: Aug. 15. Race Day: Aug. 16.

How can you win free tickets?

Markham residents have an opportunity to attend the race at no cost.

The city is giving away ten pairs of tickets for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy through a contest open only to residents.

This contest (enter here) closes on Aug. 7, and winners will each receive two tickets for the inaugural Markham race weekend.
