A US politician’s suggestive ad comparing voting for him to a sexual experience has been criticized by both political parties.
Steve Hilton, the Republican candidate for governor of California, launched the video over the weekend.
The ad shows two young women in a suggestive scenario. Steve Hilton
In the 40-second clip, two young women are sitting on a bed in front of a Pride flag.
“I’ve just never done anything like this before. What if my dad finds out?” one of them says.
“Just try it. Give me your hand. Close your eyes, and I’ll do all the work,” the other replies.
A close-up of the first woman reveals her biting her lip, gasping and giggling.
It then becomes clear that the second woman is assisting her in filling out a ballot paper, marking the bubble next to Hilton’s name.
As a Republican in California, Hilton faces significant challenges even under normal circumstances.
Current polling indicates that Democrats are poised for substantial victories in November’s midterms, particularly in California.

The ad has received widespread backlash from critics. Steve Hilton
Hilton’s has drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle.
Conservative pastor and radio personality Jack Hibbs called it “grotesque” and “insensitive.”
“Somebody on his team made an ignorant decision, and I’m furious,” Hibbs expressed.
Sonja Shaw, who is also on the same ballot as the Republican candidate for state superintendent, condemned Hilton and the state party.
“This is a clear example of exactly why good people are walking away from the Republican Party,” Shaw posted on X.
“As a mother and someone who has fought to protect children’s innocence, this crosses a line. We have lost our way. Embarrassing.”
Democrats have also criticized the ad.ч img alt=”Steve Hilton moved to the US in 2012 and is now running for governor of California.” src=”https://ontariochronicle. ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/2d7d6e5a7d50fde57492f6d9d9be863069deef6c. jpeg” width=”100%”/ >

“This is a bizarre and desperate ad from someone who has attacked LGBTQ+ individuals while aligning with Donald Trump,” Congressman Robert Garcia remarked. p >
“Hilton is losing ground and more focused on gimmicks than addressing real issues Californians care about.” p >
In defense of his video, Hilton called it a “provocative and humorous way to make a point.” p >
“Overall, reactions have been positive,” he stated. p >
“We were aiming to convey something important in an edgy manner; no one intended to offend anyone.” p >
A Fox News commentator, Hilton trails Democrat Xavier Becerra by 20 points according to recent polls within California. пч п >
During their debate, Becerra pointed out how Hilton had supported Donald Trump’s deportation agenda since moving to America from Britain in 2012.
Becerra stated: “You seem to welcome immigrants who look like you but want to deport immigrants who look like me.”
Becerra was born in California to Mexican parents.
