Drivers passing through southern Ontario should prepare for delays in the western GTA, particularly around Hamilton and Burlington, over the next few days.
There will be lane and road closures on the Burlington Skyway on multiple dates, along with disruptions due to the Around the Bay Road Race.
The situation kicks off tonight (April 10) on the Niagara-bound lanes of the QEW at the Skyway.
Starting at 11 p. m., two of four lanes will be shut down until 6 a. m. on Saturday.
This Sunday (April 12), many streets in Hamilton and Burlington will close for the Around the Bay Road Race, a marathon that’s been running for 132 years and is expected to draw 8,000 runners who’ll take a route around Hamilton Harbour.
Here’s what you can expect:
From 8:30 a. m. to 2 p. m., there will be road closures affecting the QEW Toronto-bound exit ramp to North Shore Boulevard East. The entry ramp from North Shore Boulevard East to the QEW heading toward Niagara will also be closed. Drivers can use Fairview Street instead.
During that time frame, lane closures related to the race are also anticipated.
The eastbound lane of North Shore Boulevard will be closed from the QEW ramps up to Plains Road. The westbound lane will remain open only for emergency vehicles and local residents. King Road from Plains Road East to North Shore Boulevard East will allow local traffic only. Access past Ellengale Road towards North Shore Boulevard won’t be permitted. On Plains Road West from Spring Gardens Road to North Shore Boulevard West, eastbound traffic will face one lane closure; however, two-way traffic will still be maintained. Spring Gardens Road from Valley Inn bridge to Plains Road West will have its eastbound lane closed while allowing emergency vehicles and local residents access via the westbound lane.
And there’s more since there’ll be additional lane closures again on the Skyway bridge within those Niagara-bound lanes of the QEW:
Tuesday, April 14 → Wednesday, April 15
Two of four lanes (left lanes) closed from 9 p. m. (April 14) until 6 a. m. (April 15) Location: From north of the Skyway Bridge including it. Full closure of all lanes on the Skyway from 10 p. m. (April 14) until 6 a. m. (April 15) Alternate route: QEW Niagara‑bound Collectors → Eastport Drive.
Additional Notes

Eastport Drive remains fully accessible as an alternate way back onto QEW Niagara-bound. Rain Dates: Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16.
