Arrest Made in Barrie Homicide Investigation

Barrie Police have taken a 29-year-old man into custody linked to their investigation into a murder that occurred near Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West around 11:30 Friday morning.

An officer made the arrest at Toronto Street and Dunlop Street West just after 2 p. m.

Authorities say they were alerted about an injured man lying on the ground at the Five Points intersection. When officers arrived, they found the victim, a 36-year-old from Barrie, had been stabbed. He was quickly transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators state that the suspect was last seen with the victim before police were notified and was spotted leaving the vicinity. He was dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt, black track pants, blue shoes, and carried a black backpack.

Later on, police observed him near Worsley Street and Owen Street taking off the red sweatshirt and changing into a black t-shirt while carrying two backpacks.

The police are requesting anyone with information or video footage from that area to reach out to the Barrie Police Major Crime/Homicide Unit.

Bayfield Street was closed off from Collier Street to Dunlop Street for police investigations. An alley off Bayfield just north of Dunlop was also cordoned off.
