Officials have shared details about a cross-border investigation involving law enforcement from both Canada and the U. S., leading to a significant drug seizure.
A collaborative investigation between Canadian and U. S. border agencies has led to the confiscation of nearly 1.7 tonnes of illegal drugs.
Authorities are referring to this operation, named ‘Project Bay’, as one of the largest drug busts in Ontario’s history. The estimated street value of the seized drugs exceeds $139 million, according to police reports from Thursday.

Law enforcement indicated that this probe was aimed at tackling the importation and distribution of illegal drugs associated with the Canada-U. S. border.
The inquiry began in January 2025 when Windsor police initiated a drug trafficking investigation. A month later, the Canada Border Services Agency joined forces as officers sought to uncover a cross-border trafficking network.

According to officials, the inquiry revealed an operation within the commercial trucking sector that allegedly took advantage of existing transportation systems to smuggle illegal substances across borders.
Investigators claim this operation coordinated drivers who knowingly transported these illicit materials using legitimate supply channels.

Police noted that several law enforcement agencies provided assistance during this inquiry. U. S. Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration were involved with international elements, while Toronto police and Peel Regional Police offered operational support.

On June 25, investigators executed 18 search warrants at various locations including homes and businesses in Windsor, Corunna, La Salle, Brampton, and Kleinburg.
Subsequently on July 14, two search warrants were carried out in Markham and Caledon; followed by two more in Brampton on July 20.
