Peel police have named two teenage brothers as suspects in a deadly shooting that happened in Brampton last week.

On July 5, officers went to the scene of a shooting at the intersection of Edenbrook Hill Drive and Earlsbridge Boulevard around 3:40 p. m., where they found a 20-year-old man from Brampton suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Peel police Det. Sgt. Adam Minnion on Saturday.

The man was taken to a trauma centre but sadly later died from his injuries. Minnion mentioned that the victim’s family has asked for his identity to remain private.

Authorities have now identified two 17-year-old brothers from Brampton, Shemii Whittaker and Shemel Whittaker, as suspects in this case, as stated by Minnion during a news conference on Saturday.

Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, individuals under 18 generally cannot be publicly named as suspects. However, a court order permits the release of their names and photos until Wednesday.

Both brothers are wanted on charges of first-degree murder.

Minnion advised anyone who spots them not to approach and to call 911 instead, noting that they are considered armed and dangerous.

He indicated that this shooting seems targeted, with some “pre-existing relationship” between the victim and the suspects involved. He also mentioned that the firearm used in this incident has not been found yet.

“The overarching public safety isn’t at great concern albeit the significance of the offence and the weapons that were used is of concern to us,” he said.

“Anyone found harbouring or assisting the suspect may be arrested and charged,” said police in a news release.

Minnion urged the suspects to seek legal advice and turn themselves into authorities.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are encouraged to contact Peel police.
