Environment Canada is alerting residents about an upcoming heat wave that will affect the Ottawa region.

The weather agency issued yellow-level heat warnings for large areas of eastern Ontario and western Quebec on Sunday afternoon.

On Monday, temperatures in Ottawa are expected to reach around 31 C, with a possibility of showers or thunderstorms later in the day.

Tuesday is predicted to be the hottest day of the heat wave, with Ottawa’s high anticipated to hit 36 C, according to Environment Canada.

People should watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion, which may include headaches, dizziness, thirst, and fatigue, as noted by the weather agency.

If someone shows signs of heat stroke, it’s crucial to call 911 immediately, they advised.

More moderate temperatures are expected by Wednesday or Thursday evening, according to Environment Canada.

The region had been under air quality warnings due to smoke from Quebec wildfires earlier over the weekend; however, those warnings were lifted on Sunday afternoon.

Still, Environment Canada points out that the upcoming hot and humid conditions could lead to a decline in air quality once again.
