Three men and one woman, either current students or alumni of Western University, are facing multiple charges for allegedly storing chemicals that could be used to create explosives at a house just west of the campus in London, Ont.

“This is usually a pretty quiet neighbourhood. Nothing too exciting happens here,” said area resident Vivette Martin after police cordoned off the beige corner house at 212 Chesham Pl. last Tuesday. “Everyone’s just been very curious as to what’s going on.”

All four individuals received additional charges on Monday, including one related to manufacturing a firearm. Here’s what we know about them:

Jerry Tong

Tong graduated with an engineering degree from Western in 2022, before working for an area bank, according to a Linked In profile that matches the accused’s name and appearance. (Jerry Tong/Facebook)

The oldest among those accused, 27-year-old Jerry Tong, is the only one who doesn’t reside in London.

Police and court records have linked him to Ottawa as well as a residence in Gatineau, Que., leading to search warrants being executed in both cities.

A Linked In profile associated with Tong indicates he earned an engineering degree from Western in 2022.

He remained in London for another year, serving as a wealth adviser at National Bank Financial, which has been confirmed by a company spokesperson.

The profile states that he then moved to Ottawa where he worked as an investment adviser until 2025. Tong faces the following 11 charges:

Carrying a concealed weapon. Careless use of a firearm. Possessing a loaded regulated firearm. Resisting arrest. Breaking and entering with intent. Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm. Possessing an explosive substance. Storing a restricted weapon in a careless manner. Possessing a prohibited firearm. Possessing a loaded firearm at the residence. Manufacturing a prohibited firearm.

Fei (Frank) Han

Frank Han was part of rocketry teams at both Western and Queen’s University while studying at each school, according to a Linked In profile. (Frank Han/Facebook)

Fei (Frank) Han, 25 years old, appeared via video during his bail hearing on Monday wearing the same black square glasses seen in his Facebook and Linked In photos that match his name and general look.

The images include one of him smiling while wearing a Queen’s Rocket Engineering Team (QRET) hoodie alongside an orange rocket.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont., Han continued his education at Western pursuing master’s studies in engineering according to his Linked In profile.

He actively participated in rocketry teams at both universities; being involved with the Western Engineering Rocketry Team from 2023-24 after five years on QRET beforehand.

I reached out to both teams for comment but did not hear back from Western’s team while Queen’s declined any comment.

Han is one of three suspects living at 212 Chesham Pl. He faces these charges:

Unlawful possession of explosives including several precursor substances and finished high explosives. Storing a restricted weapon carelessly. Possessing a prohibited firearm. Possessing a loaded firearm at the residence. Manufacturing a prohibited firearm.Police have been investigating the residence at 212 Chesham Pl., since Jan. 24. (Alessio Donnini/CBC)

Zekun Wang

Zekun Wang, age 26 also listed by police documents as living at Chesham house is currently registered as graduate student at Western – convocation programs show he holds both master’s degree in engineering science and bachelor’s degree in science.

Diving into his undergraduate experience he spent time working with Multiscale Deformation Lab located within Western’s Spencer Engineering Building according to now-deleted information from their website.

Poor Wang has seven charges against him:

Breaking and entering with intent. Occupying motor vehicle armed with firearm. Possessing explosive substance. Storing restricted weapon carelessly. Possessing prohibited firearms. Possessing loaded firearms inside residence. Manufacturing prohibited firearms.

Feiyang (Astrid) Ji

The only female suspect charged aged twenty-one Feiyang (Astrid) Ji remains quite enigmatic

The student’s directory lists her under faculty science status while an empty-linked profile suggests she’s set graduate sometime around two thousand twenty-seven

An accusation against her includes:

Unlawful possession explosives involving various precursor substances plus finished high explosives. Storing restricted weapon carelessly. Holding onto unlawful guns. Positing load-bearing gun inside residency. Manufacturing forbidden weapons.
