On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at around 7:30 a. m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency medical services responded to a report of a deadly motorcycle accident on Highway 11-17 close to Highway 527.
A section of Highway 11-17 between Highway 527 and Mac Gregor Road was closed for several hours while officers and the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team worked on their investigation. The highway has since been reopened.
The OPP appreciates the public’s patience and understanding during the highway closure as they carried out their investigation.

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 7:30 a. m., officers along with emergency medical services responded to reports of an incident involving multiple motorcycles along Highway 11-17 near Highway 527.
A woman aged 58 from Sault Ste. Marie was sadly pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries.
The ongoing investigation by Thunder Bay OPP is being supported by members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team, which includes a Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigator.
Highway 11-17 remains shut down between Highway 527 and Mac Gregor Road. A prolonged closure is anticipated.
