Peel Regional Police investigators from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have captured the second suspect connected to Project Tail Light, which is looking into a string of vehicle thefts aimed at residential parking garages in Mississauga.

In May, police noticed multiple vehicle thefts and attempted thefts happening within underground parking garages around Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road East in Mississauga. Several cars were taken, while others were damaged during the attempts.

This led to the launch of Project Taillight to identify those responsible and put a stop to ongoing criminal activities. Using video surveillance analysis, Automated Licence Plate Recognition, body-worn camera footage, and community outreach efforts, two suspects were pinpointed.

Search warrants were carried out at homes in Mississauga and Erin, Ontario. Authorities seized multiple cell phones, key fobs and key-programming tools, vehicle-related documents, along with about $1,465 in cash thought to be proceeds from crime.

Previously mentioned as part of this investigation, Prince, a 21-year-old man from Mississauga, was arrested and charged on June 26 with 22 criminal offences. He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

On July 9, Gurjeet Singh Virk, a 23-year-old man from Erin, turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest. He faces the following charges:

Breach of release order Theft of motor vehicle (seven counts) Possession of break-and-enter instruments (five counts) Mischief over $5,000 (five counts) Theft over $5,000 Theft under $5,000 (two counts) Fraud under $5,000

Gurjeet Singh Virk was also held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

The investigation is still active. Evidence collected during the searches is being analyzed further as investigators follow additional leads to find any other individuals involved.

If you have any information regarding this case, please reach out to investigators at the 12 Division CIB by calling 905-453-2121 ext. 1233.
