Cavan, ON – The 32nd annual Autumn Colours Classic brought together an exciting lineup of touring series finales and special races to wrap up the season at Peterborough Speedway. Despite some rain during the day on Saturday, all divisions managed to finish their feature events by the end of Sunday. The campground was full and overflow pit areas were busy once again for this event often referred to as the ‘Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing.’
Here’s a quick summary of who won each feature, along with our video interviews from the weekend.
Autumn Colours Race Winners
Electric City 167: Jake Sheridan
The Pro Late Model feature was the main event on Sunday afternoon. The ‘Electric City’ name refers to Peterborough being the first city in Canada to install electric street lights back in 1884, while ‘167 laps’ celebrates when the track opened in 1967.
The first half of the race had plenty of cautions due to incidents on track, but the second half saw a mix of challengers fighting for position at the front. Ultimately, Jake Sheridan led from start to finish and scored his first victory in this event, followed by Rick Spencer-Walt, Dale Shaw, Dan Mc Hattie, and Gord Shepherd completing the top-five.
Ontario Legend Car Series (40 laps): Mitch Wright
Mitch Wright dominated most of the race to win the Ontario Legend Car Series feature at Autumn Colours for a second consecutive year. Although he fell short of defending his series title this time around, he celebrated his fifth victory of the season in front of many fans, with his family’s business, B& G Towing and Recovery, sponsoring this year’s race.
OSCAAR Hot Rods (40 laps): Tyler Hawn
Tyler Hawn fought closely with Tom Walters early on but pulled away after a late restart to claim victory in this feature. Hawn had already secured the series championship at Delaware Speedway during its points-paying finale.
OSCAAR Modifieds (50 laps): Amanda Balson
Amanda Balson made her debut in her first season racing Modifieds and earned her first-ever trophy at Autumn Colours. She held off Max Beyore and TJ Edwards to take home the win.
*Note: Balson was later disqualified but is still regarded as the winner according to Max Beyore. More details will be linked when available regarding Balson’s penalty report.
Outlaw Midgets (25 laps): Robin Mc Lean
Robin Mc Lean seized control from Mike Bradley late in this race for his third win at Peterborough this season; it also marked his second victory during Autumn Colours. Bradley and Mikey Homewood filled out the podium spots.
Super Stocks (50 laps): Shawn Chenoweth
Shawn Chenoweth participated in both Super Stocks and Pro Late Model events this weekend and took home victory against Daniel Hawn who led early on. The top four drivers including Marlie Owen and Lane Zardo were tightly contested through several restarts.
Ontario Bandoleros (20 laps): Landon Sellers
The Ontario Bandoleros originally planned two separate 15-lap features but ran one single 20-lap race on Saturday night due to schedule changes from rain delays. This event offered double points which allowed Landon Sellers to take home victory along with claiming inaugural series championship.
Ontario Modifieds Racing Series/Sports Mods (25 laps): Chad Strawn
Junior Late Models (20 laps): Josh Davenport
Bone Stocks (40 laps): Phil Givens
Mini Stocks (67 laps): Doug ButlerChampions Crowned
