OFA has shared feedback with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing during the consultation for the suggested Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) aimed at limiting sensitive land uses near the Cargill Sarnia Export Grain Terminal. OFA backs the suggested MZO to safeguard the ongoing function of the Cargill Export Grain Terminal in Sarnia, acknowledging its significance to Ontario’s agri-food industry and export supply chain. The Terminal manages about 35% of Ontario’s grain exports, acts as a vital multimodal transportation center, and receives important fertilizer deliveries. Ensuring its operations is essential for supporting farmers, upholding food security, and maintaining Ontario’s agri-food economy. The proposed MZO aligns with the Provincial Planning Statement (2024) by preventing land use disputes that could impact a key facility. OFA also suggests revising provincial land use compatibility and environmental planning guidelines to assist municipalities in avoiding similar conflicts in future scenarios and decreasing reliance on MZOs.Source link
