The Grays Bay road and port project will involve constructing a 230-kilometre all-season road through Northwest Territories and Nunavut, creating mining opportunities for critical minerals up North. The Mackenzie Valley Highway project will establish an all-season route from Yellowknife to Inuvik, reducing travel times and connecting communities currently only reachable by air or seasonal routes. Regarding Grays Road and Port project , Mac Kinnon noted it would “help establish Canada’s first overland connection to a deep water port on Arctic Ocean.” Concurrently , Mackenzie Valley Highway will ensure reliable access essential goods , thus improving living costs while fostering economic prospects for northern communities.
“Once completed , this year-round transportation link will enhance global market access , support responsible resource development , and strengthen necessary infrastructure promoting growth across North ,” said Mac Kinnon.
Approval processes related these high-priority undertakings are made easier through having Ottawa function as “single window” regulatory body called Major Projects Office (MPO) which consolidates various levels federal review processes previously leading delays.
