OSHAWA, ONT. – The Governments of Canada and Ontario have unveiled over $41 million in joint funding to back two housing initiatives in the city of Oshawa.
At 1707 Ritson Rd. N., a new development will feature 66 stacked and back-to-back townhouses, expected to be finished by December.
This project will benefit from more than $7 million in combined support through the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative and the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative, along with a significant investment of $27.5 million from the federal government’s Affordable Housing Fund, as stated in a release.
Conant Place, situated at 1050 Simcoe St. S., is a 54-unit affordable rental building that was completed in September 2025. This initiative aims to reduce the seniors’ rental housing waitlist in Durham Region and includes affordable options for seniors and individuals with disabilities. It received backing from an Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative grant exceeding $6.9 million.
The new residences will be managed by the Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation and will provide various unit sizes with different affordability levels to accommodate the needs of Oshawa residents, totaling 120 units.
