Like most statutory holidays in Canada, different businesses and public services have various hours of operation on Canada Day. Here’s a rundown of important service changes and closures in the area:

OPEN

Curbside waste collection will happen as scheduled, including organics and yard waste according to normal regional schedules. However, residential waste drop-off transfer stations will be closed at both the Cambridge and Waterloo waste management facilities. The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Schneider Haus Historic Site will welcome visitors from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m. Cooling centers will stay open from 8:30 a. m. to 4 p. m. You can find these at 150 Main Street in Cambridge, 99 Regina Street South in Waterloo, and 150 Frederick Street in Kitchener. The Service First Contact Centre will be available around the clock. Some pharmacies, convenience stores, sit-down eateries, and fast food places will operate based on individual decisions, with many sharing their holiday hours online. Most 24/7 fast food locations will stick to their regular schedules. Operations at the Region of Waterloo International Airport won’t change due to Canada Day.

PARTIAL SERVICE

Grand River Transit will run on a holiday service schedule that’ll be indicated on all public route schedules for the day. Mobility PLUS transportation services will still function Wednesday. However, any subscribed trips will be canceled automatically. Mobility PLUS customers can reschedule these trips by calling 519-744-2241. GO Transit services are set to operate on a limited Saturday schedule, which means reduced train service on the Kitchener GO line along with specific bus schedules. You can check all holiday GO Transit timings on their website.

CLOSED

All Regional administrative offices across the tri-cities will be closed; this includes those at 99 Regina St. S. in Waterloo, 150 Frederick St. in Kitchener, and 150 Main St. in Cambridge Home child care offices won’t be open, but licensed care providers may operate as per their own guidelines. If you have urgent concerns, call 519-575-4400 for Home Child Care support. Every Region of Waterloo library branch will not be open for business. Administration for Sunnyside Seniors’ services along with the Sunnyside Wellness Centre is also closed. Community Alzheimer day programs across the tri-cities are closing down; however, overnight stays remain available. Welcome spaces located at 99 Regina Street South in Waterloo, 20 Weber Street East in Kitchener, and 150 Main Street in Cambridge won’t be open either. Most major retail outlets, grocery stores, and banks are expected to close; each should have its operating hours clearly posted online. Keep it Factual
