Canada Day Hours and Events in Durham Region

Canada Day 2026 has arrived, bringing with it festivities and some closures.

Essentials

Banks, government offices, and post offices will be closed.

Most grocery stores are also expected to close, but it’s a good idea to call your local store to check.

The following Beer Store locations will operate from 11 a. m. until 6 p. m.:

Pickering, 1355 Kingston Road
Ajax, 75 Kingston Road East
Whitby, 301 Dundas Street East
Oshawa, 200 Ritson Road North

All LCBO locations are set to close for the day.

Fireworks and celebrations

You can find a complete list of Canada Day events by clicking here.

In Pickering, the Canada Day celebrations take place at Esplanade Park from 12 – 5 p. m., featuring live entertainment, food vendors, and family-friendly activities. Then from 7:00 – 10:00 p. m., join the annual Canada Day Concert in Kinsmen Park with live music, food trucks, fireworks, and fun for everyone.

The Town of Ajax is celebrating at the Ajax Fairgrounds (1955 Audley Rd. N) from 2-10 p. m., showcasing cultural performances, children’s games and activities, live entertainment, community booths & marketplace, sensory zone, food & beer vendors along with a special fireworks finale at 10 p. m. It’s a car-free event with no parking available on-site. Limited accessible parking can be found at Audley Recreation Centre.

In Whitby, you can enjoy music and food vendors at Victoria Fields Park starting at 6 p. m., offering live music alongside family-friendly activities and food trucks. Fireworks kick off around 10 p. m.

The Oshawa annual Canada Day celebration takes place at Lakeview Park with live music, entertainment, food options, activities and displays starting at 2 p. m., followed by fireworks at 10 p. m.

The Municipality of Clarington invites families to Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex for music and entertainment along with free cookies and glow sticks from food vendors.

The Newcastle BIA is hosting its own festival along King Avenue from 11-5 p. m., featuring a beer garden and artisan vendors among other attractions.

Canada Day in Port Perry will occur at Palmer Park beginning with the classic Vettes-for-Vets Parade followed by live performances and kids’ activities leading up to fireworks.

Uxbridge plans an evening gathering at Elgin Park that includes family activities followed by fireworks later in the evening.

The City of Toronto is organizing various events along with fireworks displays across different parks and historical museums.

Downsview Park will also hold its own Canada Day event complete with fireworks.

Fun and recreation

If you’re into fishing this week you can do so without needing a license between June 27 and July 5-no need to spend any money!

This weekend there will be Auto Baron Guided Tours available at Parkwood National Historic Site; just make sure to book ahead of time!

The Oshawa Zoo opens its doors from 10a. m. – 5 p. m.

A few attractions in Toronto like The Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Zoo, CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium and Hockey Hall of Fame will stay open throughout the weekend too!

Cinemas are running on holiday hours while both The Oshawa Centre and The Shops at Pickering City Centre are closed on Wednesday.

Public transit

This Canada Day Durham Region Transit is operating on a weekend schedule.

GO Transit will follow Saturday’s schedule as well.

TTC service will be modified to run on a Sunday schedule starting around six in the morning.
