The City of Brampton is celebrating the progress on the new Victoria Park Arena, almost ten years after a fire wiped out the original building. The construction is set to be completed by the fall of 2027.

Originally built in 1966, the arena was a popular venue for junior hockey and lacrosse until it closed due to a fire in May 2016. The new facility aims to open its doors in the fall of 2027.

“This milestone marks an exciting step forward as we continue to rebuild and reimagine Victoria Park Arena for our growing city,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “This new facility will honour the legacy of the original arena while creating a modern, accessible space where residents can come together, stay active and celebrate community.”

The updated arena will feature a hardwood floor suitable for box lacrosse, ball hockey, and indoor field hockey. It will also provide six dressing rooms, meeting areas, a referee room, and a large multi-purpose room.

A second-floor mezzanine with seating for up to 500 people will overlook the playing area. Additionally, there are plans for new landscaping around the site. The arena will serve as the new home for the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, which honors local athletes and individuals who have made contributions to sports in the city.

Two pieces of public art highlighting Brampton’s sports history are planned for this building; one will be a suspended installation in the Sports Hall of Fame while another will be a mural located in the lobby.

“The new Victoria Park Arena has been a long time coming,” said Regional Coun. Rowena Santos about how this project has taken years to develop. “The original facility served our residents for nearly five decades and now we’re building something that will carry our community forward for generations to come.”
